To make sure you have the right size blind, look at our How to Measure guide before you order.
Once you have received your blinds, follow the simple installation instructions for fitting roller blinds.
First up make sure you have the right tools….
- A metal tape measure
- Pen & paper
Always write down the measurement: Width X Drop.
Take care not to mix these up.
Measurements should be provided in millimetres.
Measure all windows as there may be slight variations which will affect your blind from fitting perfectly.
How to measure for Face Mount (fitting roller blinds outside the window frame)
These instructions are for blinds mounted outside the window frame on the wall or trim, and cover the window moulding.
Select this option if the window is not deep enough to accommodate a recess mount.
- Measure the width from the outer edge of the architrave to the opposite edge
- Measure the drop from the top of the architrave to where you want the blind to finish
- Decide if the chain is to go on the left or right
If you do not have architraves (timber frame) around window
Measure the opening and add at least 100mm to allow the blind to go past the opening.
(100mm will give 35mm of blind each side past the opening)
Measure the opening and add at least 100mm to the drop to allow the blind to be mounted above the opening.
How to measure for a Recess Mount (fitting roller blinds inside the window frame)
Blinds mounted inside the window frame for a neat, custom look.
Make sure you have enough depth to mount the blind inside the frame.
60mm will be sufficient.
Less will result in the blind protruding out of the recess.
- Measure the width from the inside of the window frame from left side to right side.
- Making sure to measure at the top of the inside of the window frame and not the bottom, as this is where the brackets will be mounted.
- Measure the drop from the top of the inside of the window frame to the bottom of the window.
- Decide if the chain is to go on the left or right.
All roller blinds use fixtures which extend slightly beyond the actual width of the blind. So, if your roller blind is to be fitted WITHIN THE WINDOW RECESS, the actual width of the fabric of your blind will be slightly narrower (approximately 35mm) than the width measurement you give us, in order to allow for fitting and smooth operating of your roller blind within the window recess.
You do not need to make any adjustments to the width or length of your blind measurements.
We will make all the necessary adjustments for you based on your measurements.
Installation instructions for fitting roller blinds
Promoblinds are simple to install, however if you prefer, Promoblinds provide comprehensive installation services throughout Australia. Please contact PromoBlinds if installation is required.
For best results, installing a roller blind is a two person job. One person can do it alone, but a helper can stand back and act as a spotter for you and hold the blind in place while you are marking for the pilot holes.
Promoblinds also come with a child safety bracket for holding the cord against the wall and out of the reach of small children. In Australia, installation of this bracket is required by law.
Before installing your blinds make sure you have the following;
- Power drill
- Appropriate drill bit
- Phillips screw driver
- A pencil
- Plasterboard anchors (if you are going to be screwing into plasterboard, you will need to first install plasterboard anchors and then insert your screws into them)
How to Install Roller Blinds
- Start by inspecting your brackets and the ends of your blind. You will see that one bracket has a circular hole and the other has a rectangular slot. The blind has a corresponding circular pin on one side and a rectangular tab on the other. The rectangular side is the spring side.
- Determine where on the wall/frame you want to install the blinds. During the design process you will have selected the Face Mount or Recess option; the blind will have been fabricated accordingly.
- Mark the where your pilot holes will be. Place the rectangular slotted bracket against the wall where you want it to go and use a pencil to mark where you will be inserting the screws that have been supplied with your blind.
- Drill pilot holes for timber screws or appropriate sized holes for your plasterboard anchors.
- Screw the bracket into place. If you are using anchors, you will need to gently tap them into the plasterboard first.
- Determine location of second bracket. Insert the roller blind into the fixed bracket and hold it in place while you position the other bracket. Ensure that the blind is parallel with the top of the window frame. You may need a second person for this depending on the size of the blind. Check that the ACMEDA logo on the chain end cap of the roller is in the 6 o’clock position.
- Mark where your pilot holes will be.
- Drill pilot holes for timber screws or appropriate sized holes for your plasterboard anchors.
- Screw the second bracket into place. If you are using anchors, you will need to gently tap them into the plasterboard first.
- Insert the roller blind, rectangular end first into the bracket. Once in place, rotate the clear plastic disc at the other end to retract the pin, place the blind into the round bracket and release the pin by rotating the clear plastic disc in the opposite direction.
- Attached the bracket cover caps.
- Attach the chain safety bracket. Allow the chain to drop to its natural height, secure safety bracket to the wall or frame using the screw supplied.
- Test the blind by lowering and raising it a couple of times.
